How to move your ModHeader profiles to ProperHeader

After ModHeader's removal from the Chrome Web Store, you don't have to rebuild your setup by hand. ProperHeader reads ModHeader's export files directly. This works on the free plan.

1. Export from ModHeader

  1. Open ModHeader from the toolbar.
  2. Open the profile menu and choose Export. Export all profiles if offered.
  3. Save the JSON file, or copy the JSON text.

Then uninstall ModHeader from chrome://extensions.

2. Import into ProperHeader

  1. Open ProperHeader's Full editor and choose Import / Export in the sidebar.
  2. Click Choose File and pick the export, or paste the JSON into the box.
  3. Choose Add to my profiles or Replace all my profiles, then click Import.
  4. Read the summary. Anything that couldn't be converted is listed by profile so you can recreate it.

What converts

ModHeaderProperHeader
Request headers✓ Request headers, including disabled ones (they stay disabled)
Response headers✓ Response headers (using them needs Pro)
URL filters✓ Filters (Pro)
Resource-type filters✓ Resource types (Pro)
Redirects✓ Redirects (Pro)
Anything elseListed after import, never dropped silently

Free accounts can import everything, and keep using request headers in one profile. Pro unlocks the rest and unlimited profiles.

ModHeader is already uninstalled. Can I get my profiles back?

Uninstalling an extension deletes its local data, so if none of these work, the profiles are gone.

Questions

Can I import ModHeader profiles on the free plan?

Yes. Import and export are free. Request headers work on the free plan; response headers, filters and redirects need Pro to take effect.

Where is ModHeader's export option?

In ModHeader's profile menu, choose Export to save your profiles as a JSON file.

Is exporting from ModHeader safe?

Exporting saves your rules to a file on your computer. Do it, then uninstall ModHeader.
